We’re only a couple of weeks away from the highly-anticipated ice fishing season here in the Haliburton Highlands. Families from Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, and far beyond have already started planning wintertime adventures to Sandy Lane Resort, one of the premier Ontario resorts. Our peaceful four-season resort is steps away from superb snowmobiling, ice skating, skiing, snowshoeing, and, of course, ice fishing on tranquil Halls Lake. Winter is the perfect season to plan mid-week group stays in the Algonquin Highlands, thanks to our incredible specials, cozy cottages, and exciting outdoor activities.
Peaceful Halls Lake
Halls Lake is known to most Ontarians as a beautiful “fall lake” because of its surrounding forestry, which becomes a spectacular meld of orange, red, and yellow every autumn. But it’s hard to deny the serenity of Halls Lake in the midst of winter, especially following a fresh snowfall or during hoarfrost. Frequently, wildlife will be spotted near Sandy Lane Resort, such as moose, deer, raccoons, squirrels, and, occasionally, wolves. Halls Lake has 1,334 acres of prime ice fishing. It’s a deep, clear Canadian Shield lake with a maximum depth of 264 feet.
Ice Fishing
Sandy Lane Resort is one of the only Ontario resorts to offer on-site auger and hut rentals. You’re, of course, more than welcome to bring along your own equipment for a memorable mid-week Southern Ontario adventure. There are several fish species that you’ll reel in this winter, including lake trout, smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass. Seemingly, the best lure to use is a Williams jigging spoon.
Mid-Week Group Stays in Haliburton, Ontario
The best time to visit our Southern Ontario paradise is mid-week during the wintertime. Not only is the property uncrowded and peaceful, but you’ll have first access to on-site activities such as natural ice skating, cross-country skiing, and the famous family toboggan hill. The main reason large groups choose Sandy Lane Resort for their mid-week stay is our outrageously-low priced cottages. Sandy Lane Resort is also one of the only Ontario resorts to offer wood-burning fireplaces in every cottage! We now offer pre-made meals available for purchase at the resort. Some of our offerings include ten-ounce New York strip steaks (for only $10!), jumbo hot dogs, mild sausages, and even four packs of six-ounce burgers. This is a very cost-effective option for our visiting guests. Special requests need to be made and paid for in advance.
