Springtime is the best time year to see the larger animals of the Highlands, bears, moose and deer, especially in the internationally known Algonquin Park (http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/).
Sandy Lane is only a short forty-minute drive from the west gate of the park. Go for a drive; visit the highly informative information pavilion that explains everything about Algonquin Park. The logging museum at the east gate of the park is worth the drive. It is a self-guided walk through the bush with stations and displays of the logging history in the park and the surrounding area. It's quite a neat thing to do.
